Global label and branding company Nilorn has installed a Zünd S3 at its UK HQ in order to extend its reach into an already successful packaging business – with the digital cutting table’s modular design allowing Nilorn to continue to develop its strategy as market demands change.
With a head office in Borås, Swedish company Nilorn has subsidiaries across the world – including in the UK – working directly with brands, retailers and garment manufacturers to create custom woven labels, care labels, accessories, trims and more. It also produces packaging, for instance gift boxes and cartons for small fashion products like hosiery, but the packaging sample-making for European operations currently takes place in Asia.
Andy Winterbottom, UK Packaging Manager at Nilorn, explains: “Across Europe, Nilorn subsidiaries send their designs to China and Bangladesh to produce packaging samples. The turnaround can be three to four weeks, or longer if something’s not right with the sample. As a result, we decided it was time to invest in sample-making equipment in Europe.”
The Zünd S3 M800 installed at Nilorn’s UK office in Keighley in May is intended, therefore, to be used to produce packaging samples for subsidiaries across the whole continent. These will include packaging products already offered by Nilorn – whose clients include Joules, Superdry and Jigsaw – and more: the company plans to expand its whole packaging service offering.
“Zünd is known for its reliability and performance,” says Andy Winterbottom, explaining why the compact Zünd S3 M800 was chosen as the best machine for the job. “As a Swiss company, you know you’re buying the best.
“We saw the machine at the Zünd UK Ltd demonstration centre in St Albans and larger models at other factories on visits arranged by Zünd, and could see the M800 does everything we need it to do for our packaging applications.”
This includes reducing the turnaround times on packaging samples from weeks to days and increasing quality control.
The Zünd S3 is the ideal choice for a market with fast-changing demands. Every Zünd digital cutting table is built to a modular design, allowing each user to choose their perfect configuration upon installation and make changes and upgrades at a later date. For example Nilorn could, if it chooses, add material handling systems, change or add tools, install new software and invest in innovative modules such the award-winning Over Cutter Camera (OCC). Indeed, one Swiss-made Zünd machine can be used for a variety of different market segments and applications, allowing users to diversify without buying an entirely new system.
With the additional benefits of maximum levels of automation, robustness, safety, precision, efficiency and speed, an investment in a Zünd digital cutting table offers both immediate ROI potential and future-proofing.
“Market leaders like Nilorn with brand-name clients need equipment that they know will offer outstanding performance, with the flexibility required to cope in a demanding industry,” comments Ian Guest from Zünd UK Ltd.
“Nilorn will undoubtedly create the highest quality products on its Zünd S3 so we’re looking forward to seeing which direction they take.”
Currently, the Zünd S3 M800 in Keighley is being operated by existing employees, but Nilorn may take on a new constructional designer in the future – again, depending on customer demand.
